Gateway to Summer

We hear it every year in May -and it’s always hard to believe, but summer is right around the corner. That means swimming pools, lazy Sundays on the patio, and food extravaganzas galore. So, before you throw on the flip-flops and head to the beach, there are some great suggestions you will want to take care of in preparation for the warm summer months:

Calcium (And Vitamin D)

Good nutrition will help build strong bones and you need plenty of calcium and vitamin D in your diet. Good sources of calcium are low-fat dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese, as well as green leafy vegetables. For vitamin D, look to egg yolks, saltwater fish, and foods fortified with vitamin D. Chasing Miracles Hydration Water Packs are an excellent source of calcium in it’s raw organic form. Your body comes with it’s own selection process which means you cannot overdo this form of calcium. Your body will absorb what it is lacking and eliminate what it does not need. Get those bones ready for lots of walking in the coming summer months.

Keep Moving

Much like muscles your bones get stronger and stay stronger with exercise. Weight-bearing and strengthening exercises are best, such as walking, climbing stairs and lifting weights. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise daily or the most popular form of exercise-10,000 steps a day. I carry my phone with me at all times to track my steps. It’s incredible how fast you can accumulate those 10,000 steps every day with just a little effort. It’s great for your cardiovascular health.

Hydrate

Water is crucial to avoid dehydration especially as the weather changes. Dehydration is no joke. Most people who suffer from dehydration don’t even realize it until it becomes a serious problem. Avoid trips to the ER by drinking Alkaline Water. Alkaline Water hydrates at the cellular level making sure your entire body is hydrated. Alkalinity is linked to many benefits that can help alleviate many seasonal health concerns.

A Perfect Balance

Maintaining a healthy weight is good for you in so many ways. It’s good for your heart, your lungs, and helps you avoid chronic diseases plus it’s good for your bones. If you’re underweight, you’re at risk for osteoporosis, a common disease that weakens bones, which increase the risk of sudden and unexpected fractures. If you’re overweight, you’re at risk for developing damaging osteoarthritis, diabetes and heart disease. Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disorder and it is due to aging and wear and tear on a joint. There is nothing worse than having your summer season ruined with an injury or inability to enjoy outdoor activities.
