It’s Never Too Late For Change

I am an older person. Sixty seven to be exact. I believe my body, in a perfect world, would heal everything that goes wrong with it. It has done a pretty good job up to now of fixing my infections, shortening my colds, mending my broken bones, cuts and abrasions of which there have been many. I drink enough water because my body is seventy percent water, and a main cause of the problems old people have is due to dehydration.

People believe they can hydrate their cells and keep their body functioning with ice tea, juice, soda, coffee, beer and wine. People believe this because they see it on television and hear it on the radio and are bombarded with medical intervention for every little problem we might have. Dry mouth is a Syndrome. Shift work is a Disorder. I am not kidding. There are medications for both these things. If we have shortness of breath it has to be a Disease. Couldn’t it just be shortness of breath from running up the stairs? Couldn’t my mouth be dry because its ninety degrees out and all I have had to drink is three beers while I am fishing, playing golf or taking a darn walk? Where in God’s good name has accountability gone in our country? No matter what goes wrong it must be someone else’s fault. It can’t be me. It’s as if the “not me ghost” has transferred from the little children to the senior citizens.

“Oh no its not my fault my blood sugars are off the charts. I only had three quarts of ice cream and fifteen cups of coffee last week.”

How much water did we drink? None, zero, nada.

By the time we reach fifty our tank is down to about 52 percent on average. All different problems that are in the medical research start to show up. What to we do? Do we drink a little water, eat a few vegetables, cut the ice cream and soda down? No of course not. Let’s go the doctor and find a pill to fix it. Maybe everything in moderation is a good place to start.

I will give you one little idea which demonstrates how off track we can get without even trying. Soda, and I mean any soda, is much too acidic for our bodies. It takes about thirty glasses of water to wash the acid of one soda out of our system.

So the next time you find yourself thirsty, try a couple glasses of water before you run to the doctor for dry mouth syndrome. Next time and the time after start with a little common sense and accountability.

Maybe its not too late for us.
